TF2 Classic is coming to Steam in 2025!

"Steam" is a mysterious resource created when coal is burned in certain situations — a harrowing thought to coal-lovers like the Civilian, to whom burning coal is like setting one's own children on fire. But maybe a foray into the Steam industry is just what the company needs to capture new eyes.

will i still be able to play if have a VAC ban on live tf2? if not, will your website still allow me to download it like it always did?

i'm not writing this to be argumentative, i'm just uneducated and i legitimately want to know - why can't it just be put on steam ready to go right now? what steps are involved in porting it from being a separate product to steam?

As it stands, TF2C is written building off of some much older code than what is in modern TF2. They are in the process of updating the game to make it fit the current, recently updated Source Multiplayer SDK engine so that it will work properly and not have to be run off of an older version. I believe it would cause problems if they were to simply upload the game as-is right now with no changes.

thanks for the insight

something else occurred to me, and whilst it's not really related, i dont feel like starting a new thread for it

back when TF2C downloads were temporarily disabled following a request from valve - was the SDK the reason? did you guys know they were working on it back then?

i understand you may not be able to answer this question so no pressure if you can't, the thought just came to me, because it would explain a lot if true

I am not a developer for the game, but I believe it was because TF2C in its current state uses some previously leaked code of an older build of TF2. Valve got upset over this and was threatening potential legal action, and then in typical Valve fashion they went radio silent and the devs just went business as usual after Valve refused to answer any email correspondence.

Nobody except Valve knew they were just drop TF2's source code publicly and update the SDK, especially since that debacle was years before they did this.
