i've been trying to get back into the flow of filmwatching lately, finally checked out One Battle After Another and Sinners a while ago and needless to say, the latter was so so much better than the former. OBAA's writing just felt needlessly racist and was so tone deaf in its portrayal of leftists. at least the third act hard carried that film. Sinners was an instant 5 star for me though, can't even begin to describe how sick that one is despite what should be a relatively simpler plot.
nolans odessey is a very interresting movie in the way comic book movie can be a good movie. The story is interesting in the way it's told, we know what the odessey is but how can you tell in way that grips both the essence of the myth while also telling you through how it's telling you the myth. The hero is always gonna save the day, but it's how he decides to do it, what him doing it looks/feels like, and the message the author is trying to portay through their itteration of the character that's interesting.
