I think you might have to download server configs and the like regardless of whether or not it is a stock map. I'll check it out later to see what's what. And I'm not sure on doom, as you kinda need friendly fire on for it not to be too easy.

As a note, the remote thing is sorta essential, as none of use posses a mobile device above flip phone level, but the tuner card comes with a remote interface so hopefully it won't be a huge issue. @Vintage it's Hauppage, don't remember the exact model though.
