What do they gain by going to the funeral? There weren't any celebrities so you can't same fame. The person is dead so he wouldn't know. He has no family so there can be no recognition. The names of those who went haven't been published.
So you are saying it is better to not go at all instead of going for a less than altruistic motive? What if their motivation was to show all veterans that they have not been forgotten? That they still care? Isn't that reason alone a nice thing to do? I guess because he doesn't have loved ones, he doesn't deserve to be remembered? Is that what you are really saying lonesome?
