Apologies for the delay. We reviewed the details and conclude that while there are some uses of this symbol that are not, it is currently used by several neo-nazi or ultra-nationalist groups, and so our staff are not comfortable with its use on our servers.

Would you care to elaborate why you claim your particular usage isn't intended as such, especially when, at the time, your Steam avatar featured a solider/military theme?

National Idea symbol is a monogram of the letters "I" and "N". It is actively used by Ukrainian nationalist organizations such as "Patriot of Ukraine", "Civil Corps of Azov" and "Azov Brigade".
Some sources compare this symbol with the Nazi "Wolfsangel" and accuse it of being similar to it.
However, the author of the symbol and representatives of the above-mentioned organizations deny any connection with Nazi symbols and has no relation to the "Wolfsangel".

As much as those organizations profess not to have any connection, they are still often associated with far-right ideals and both they and the symbol have far too many links to Neo-Nazi-ism for us to be comfortable with the use of that symbol on our servers. Some sources suggest that these connections are largely historical and that the groups' stance has shifted away from that in more recent years.

Rather than continuing to debate the meaning of a clearly controversial symbol and its context, and since you've already removed it from your username, I propose the following:

We'll lift the ban on the consideration that you understand our concerns and preferences not to see it used in our servers, because in most cases it lacks any defining context.

Your ban will remain on record, and that does mean that we may take it into consideration if there are any further infractions of this nature.
