I'm bad at bootloaders

I know there are some linux pros around here, and my google-fu is weak today. I'm trying to set up a multi-boot system using GRUB. I'm trying to get to the point where I can boot into Ubuntu, Windows, or whatever distro is the flavor of the week.

Right now I have:

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000200658432 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121600 cylinders, total 1953516911 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xb653f696

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 * 2048 1953513471 976755712 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT ///////////////////////////This is Windows 8.1. I had to install windows with the other drives disconnected because of some windows installer PITA.

Disk /dev/sdb: 2000.4 GB, 2000394706432 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 243200 cylinders, total 3907020911 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x000a1260

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 2048 976562175 488280064 83 Linux ///////////////This is my /home

Disk /dev/sdc: 64.0 GB, 64019029504 bytes /////////////////SSD
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 7783 cylinders, total 125037167 sectors

I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdc1 * 2048 31250431 15624192 82 Linux swap / Solaris ///////////////////////I don't grok swap either
/dev/sdc2 31250432 70311935 19530752 83 Linux //////////////////Ubuntu / primary bootable partition / sometimes I can see grub and I think this is where he lives

soo.... what exactly is the problem? Details are useful but we can't really start fixing it unless we know what we need to fix ;)

Are you stuck booting to only one OS (which one)? does the GRUB menu show but not give the correct choices? Error? etc.

I ended up getting it working. I was just an update-grub away, but I still don't totally understand how it works. Thanks for helping, though!
