• Please DO NOT post in a ban contest thread unless you are:
    1. The person banned or posting a ban request.
    2. Senior Staff or part of the Ban Appeal Team.
This is necessary to keep threads on-topic and uncluttered. Thank you.

If you don't know why you were banned, you probably broke one of our server rules. Most bans are temporary except in the case of gross violations or repeated infractions.

[Resolved] Ban appeal

In-Game name: Freddie Mercury's Ghost
Time of Ban: One week
Date of Ban: 6/10
Steam ID: STEAM_0:0:90027488
Reason for Ban: Language
Additional Comments: I think I was banned for saying "n'wah" or calling someone a "fetcher". These are not real words, they are fictional curses from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. "n'wah" means "outlander" (a foreigner to the province of Morrowind) and "fetcher" has no specific meaning. I was previously muted for three days for saying "n'wah" but the staff member who did this called me a "fucking idiot" or something like that and generally seemed extremely angry for no particular reason, so I just accepted my mute as someone having a very bad day. I don't want to cause problems and I don't mean to berate anyone, the words are entirely fictitious and are not applicable to real-life people in any way.

Right, so you're leaving out a lot of context here. You directly said in-game that you were using it in the place of the N-word. There were two trainee mods present that asked you not to do that, as did other people both in text chat and in voice. We do not take kindly to people trying to just sidestep the rules on racism by doing intentional misspellings or similar-sounding words to slurs, and you are not at all the first person we've had to get on for saying this specific word in place of the N-word due to its vague similarity and pronunciation sounding plausibly like saying "N-word." You even proceeded to yell "you n'wah" on the voice chat at random, which basically anyone at that point could see what you're doing there even without that context.

The trainee that called you an idiot only really appeared called you that out of frustration because you were explaining the source of the word to them, despite them having already acknowledged that they knew it was from Morrowind. They were both otherwise pretty reasonable in asking you to not say it and explaining why. Neither of them silenced you in the moment, and you were actually silenced around an hour or two afterwards by a different moderator who was responding to someone reporting you for this incident. We do not just hand out bans and silences because one of us might be a little grumpy that day; you directly acknowledged you were trying to be sneaky with breaking the rules, and you were punished for it. The reason for this ban is because you were doing it again after having already been asked directly by moderators and other community members to not say that, as well as having already been silenced for it before. You should have known better by that point.

Considering that second instance was relatively minor, I'm willing to bring this down to just a silence for the remaining time, and allow you to play the game again. However, this will still remain on your record as a second infraction, and any further violations will result in a permanent communications block or ban as per our standard three-strikes policy. Please re-read the rules as I've linked above as you are expected to be familiar with them now.

Please respond below. Once you've responded and acknowledged these terms and having read the rules, you'll be able to play once again but will remain silenced until the end of your original punishment's duration.

Thank you for the quick response! I do want to clarify I sincerely wasn't trying to be sneaky or "sidestep" the rules, I knew mods were online and I said this because I didn't think it would result in a mute. I only assumed the ban was impulsive on behalf of one of the staff because I don't really know how you guys handle things internally, and I've seen players banned or similar in other games/scenarios on the whims of one staff member. No disrespect intended to them or any of you folks. [edit[ Oh yeah I forgot to acknowledge the rules thing. Sorry!

Sure, I just wanted to add context and clarify that these were not impulsive decisions and were in line with our policies. Please do not repeat this behavior again.

In any case, your ban's been lifted and your silence will expire in 6 days. Have fun with the funny shootbang video mcgame.
