Cube World

Zirkus

Achievement Hunter
So if you are a fan of voxel based games you may have heard about this game before as its first video was released two years ago, and more videos kept people up to date up to the release of alpha a few days ago.

I'm linking the slo-mo combat video since combat is what you will spend most of the game doing, and i have to say the combat feels pretty fantastic. Dodging feels useless sometimes but things like that im sure will be tuned along the way.

Needless to say since it's just alpha things are a bit all over the place. Quests are not in the game so there really isnt a sense of direction, BUT you will receive missions to kill bosses that are much harder than normal mobs, these are marked on the map with crossed swords. There are also randomly generated dungeons that yield loots of mobs and loot. If you have ever played Realm of the Mad God that is what i would relate this to the most at the moment. Being a 3D RotMG means there really isn't a point to the game other than becoming the most kickass, facestomping, dungeon destroyer to have ever played your class.

Ranged feels much stronger than Melee, but melee doesn't seem to get as terrible of a deal as they do in a lot of rpg games. I would highly encourage checking out this game. I'm 12 hours of gameplay in and my highest is only level 11, oh yeah did i mention there's no level cap? It does start plateauing at a point but even that is in the 300-500 range if i recall correctly.

I would write more about the game but i didn't really make the thread to do a review/overview. Mainly made a thread to say:

If you do have the game hit me up and lets play together! Party play makes leveling slower but it feels much more enjoyable and it makes you not have so much vendor trash armor that you can't use. Just message me on steam, post here, or pm me and ill toss you an ip to my little server or we can use one you have in mind.

For those of you wondering, yes, I have put in an e-mail to the devs asking about information on running a server and whether we could do so in some official capacity ;)

Should be noted that servers with a capacity of more than 4 are planned. While they are possible now they aren't official and not intended atm. Figured i would mention it since many streamers people are seeing are currently running with more than 4 people and people are confused why they can only have 4 in theirs.

Is this like a full fledged RPG? With lots of skills? Or is it like Minecraft with only a couple different attacks?

There are 4 classes. Mage, Ranger, Rogue, and Warrior. Each class has 2 specializations. More things to separate the two are coming but right now only the major passive for the specialization and 1 unique skill in the tree are different. For example, Berserker is the first specialization of warrior which you choose by clicking the button with the guy holding two axes. His passive is to attack faster with each successive hit, and his final skill is War Frenzy which causes your special attacks to charge faster. Guardian is the other specialization and the passive is that you gain 25% additional health, and you block for twice as long. Also enables you to parry with all weapons. His final skill is Bulwark which makes you immune to CC and you take severely reduced damage for an amount of time. So for each class you get 2 shared abilities and 1 unique. HOWEVER, weapons also have two different attacks for each set. 1h sword + 1h sword will provide a different move set than a 2h mace, and a 2h mace will have a different set than a 2h greatsword. Combat is also unlike minecraft in that it is VERY fluid, and there is of course dodging which works very well against some mobs and is usesless against others. As for the rpg aspect you also have to level pets, riding, climbing, hang gliding, swimming, and sailing. Of course theres also the loot but i think that requires little explaining overall.

I will check this out.

Edit: Damn, the site to buy it is down. Can't even download the demo without registering which is also down.

i shall join in the epicness thats cube world next time you play just message me on steam :3

Me and funk just played for a few hours. I might play more tonight, and ill definitely play more tomorrow. Either way i'll shoot you a message when i do ^_^

For anyone interested i will be keeping an open server up for pretty much all of today. I am starting a mage(although i may return to my rogue later in the day) and have reset the seed so its a whole new world from the one me and funk have been patroling lately. Will also be streaming for a while for a couple friends that are thinking about getting it.

The server has been moved so i don't know how the connection will be but it works fine for me so far.

So, for whatever reason...

If I start the game up normal and try playing, it works fine for a few minutes. Then the Physical Memory it uses shoots up and I'm guessing that's why shit goes south. Another thing I tried doing was setting Affinity to just 1 CPU. As far as I can tell, that just makes it so when trying to load the world, it doesn't load fast at all. =(

So, I guess either the game isn't meant for me or there is a really cool patch I'll be waiting for in the future. Wish I could join you guys, but it seems I'm waiting.

Try using an FPS limiter. Theres currently an issue with the game trying to run itself at above 200 FPS, try using your video card software to limit the FPS, if you have a radeon use msi afterburner or just use Google.

The world is generated as you explore so that could be what is making shit hit the fan for you. Doesnt affect me too bad unless im hosting the server and stream and even now i just get a wee bit of lag. Try joining the server. Since you arent the one handling map generation you will be able to tell if thats truly your issue.

Having some issues with servers and general worries when running cube world. The wife has constant lag on the server which is odd cuz we play a lot of online games together and some which one of us is the server base and never had problems so i suppose that is a game issue. The other issue i'm having is that when cube world is actually running 99% of my CPU is being used.. and i have a quad core 3.4o ghz i5 oc'ed to 3.80, 16 gigs of ram, and a Geforce GTX 650..

I know the game is alpha and lots of things probably just need to be fixed so hopefully future patches will fix it up.

until any kind of server list is to be made i think this will be a nice and good way for us to know when someone wants to play http://www.cubelfg.com/ also when others want to play with us :3

oh also :3

Had some unexpected guests last night so i had to log off early, so i just took the server down when i went to bed. The server will be back up all day for people from here who want to group up as ill be leveling my lvl 4 warrior, and possibly my super lame lvl 18 Ranger.

I wanted to try sniper but have heard it's hard to play if you don't have someone tanking. I would like to play a rogue because I love it nvisibility. What do you suggest?
