So now that DoubleCrossFort is doing quite well again, I think it may be time to revisit this.

They were originally merged since there wasn't enough population to fill them both.I'd like to get some feedback from the community - What do you think? Are we ready to bring back the days of old with separate DoubleCross and DerpFort fun?

I said yes. We could definitely make them each their own servers and give it a trial run. If it doesn't look too well, there could always be another moment to merge them back together. I don't see what could hurt from trying this once more.

there was also the idea going around to add turbine to the Doublefort rotation, but that is another topic. im fine with w/e decision is made

Not sure how popular the 2Fort component is, but DC was always a personal favorite of mine. I think at minimum having a separate DC server would be a great change.

When I've played on there DC gets a decent showing, and then we lose a chunk when teufort comes up. I would tend to vote lets give the divorce a shot and if it doesn't work out population wise they can go to Vegas and get re-hitched.

IIRC, there was an issue with Turbine that kept crashing peoples clients.

On topic: I'm hesitant to split them again. Such a change could piss people off.

What if they could create two separate servers 2Fort and DoubleCross, to see which gains more hits on the server to determine if a split would be necessary or not?

I'll be completely honest, I'd love to see Doublecross separated from 2fort, but I hardly play TF2, so I feel as though my input is invalid.

There's another 24/7 2Fort that I've played on in the past. I just never made it to the FFN one because the population wasn't there. I'd certainly join if we had some regulars.

Contrary to what's been said in this post, I don't think the server is very active. I've been playing here for 3 days (not including today) and the server was only filled yesterday. One of the days of inactivity was on Saturday. In other words, the server was probably not filled organically but from our intervention.

1. Server & forum pioneers (us)
2. Regulars in servers
3. Regulars in forums

That is the tl;dr steps to get a very active and successful community in the long term. Right now, we're working on number 2. I haven't noticed too many reoccuring players that aren't anyone from #1. #2 takes a bit of time and depends a lot on the impressions made from new traffic.

What this means in terms of the OP is that it does not matter if we divorce now, since we have no regulars in doublefort. It is only risky to experiment if there are server regulars, not community regulars.

I suppose it was a bit optimistic, but then again I was speaking relatively to how it was a few months ago... At least now when some people go in to get it started, it actually starts up. :D

As much as it pained me to do it, I voted no. I can't express the amount of disdain I have for 2fort. That being said, I think the population is there for one server but not stable enough to consider making them each their own server. I'm also a major advocate for adding Turbine to the mix on a trial basis. I believe that Turbine would make a great addition to the server. Both of the current maps end up becoming death matches to begin with. Turbine generally ends up being the same thing. SAVE TURBINE, SAVE THE WORLD.

I've never played on the server but I'm not the hugest fan of playing one map for extended periods of time, I like the little bit of mix without having to change servers.

Given that there is a majority vote of "no" right now, I'm not going to make any changes to the DCF server yet.
I think what I will do (as suggested) is a trial run by putting up another box that is 24/7 Doublecross (given that it was FFN's thing) and see how it fills. If it does OK, we can revisit the issue. If it does not, I'll see whether a 24/7 2fort is a better option, and shoudl either of them work well, revisit whether we should change DCF to a CTF rotation server with multiple CTF maps.

Does this sound like a plan?

2fort/Convoy and DC 24/7 Done.
Convoy isn't gonna happen unless we get a fixed version of the map that doesn't kill people's framerates and have other issues.

24/7 DC box is up. Spread the word :)

id say separate it as a few days ago i was playing when it was 2fort and it had around 15-20 people then dc came on and bam down to 5 then just 1(me) then 2fort came back soon after and it ended up at around 10 people again soon after and a few days before that it was vise versa so them separate would most likely work better
