Faulty Headphones....Again....

Jarben has bought me a 30 dollar headset to compensate for the one I thought was broken. However, today the sound quality all of a sudden dropped. Very low. Lots of sounds are not played and the ones that are sound very distant and weak. My 5 dollar headset had way better quality than this. What the hell happened? Do I have to get another headset?

Have you tried the headset on another device? I've had this happen before and it turned out to be the audio jack in my computer, not the headset.

I've tried the headset on both jacks and neither give good sound quality. I have tried the old headset(which I can't seem to get the mic working), and the sound was better. I have tried reinstalling the drivers, turning off enhancements, and adjusting the volume. Nothing is working! I'm seriously stressed out about this, I already have a birthday present for next week ordered, I want to go on a field trip to New York which costs 83 dollars, and want a new video card for Christmas. I really don't think we have money to spare on a new, decent headset. Not to mention this headset was already a gift from jarben.

hmm... is there a kink in the cable somewhere? Sounds like it might be broken internally and making a poor connection. Usually you can feel this as an irregularity when you run your fingers down the cable. This is by far the biggest problem I've found with headsets is that the cables are in a situation where they are constantly flexed and wear out quickly. My current headphones are probably about 10 years old now and I've repaired breaks in the cable twice because you can't get this type anymore.

If you have a good buddy that has soldering skills you might be able to buy him a beer and have him replace the cable on your headset with a new one.

Also... I bought one of these a while back and it's served me decently well. Maybe not the greatest, but satisfactory. Might be an option as a temporary replacement until you have the cash for a better one?

I meant an altogether different device...not your computer.

Tried computers at school, don't work. Vintage, I'm underage and have no job. Buying someone a beer is not an option. Also, that headset is sold out for now. Thanks though.
