Five Charities in Five Days

so if any of you do decide to donate I won't call you a hippy.

Well that is some good news, we're all so afraid of you thinking we're hippies. ;)

Also, you don't donate because you didn't realize that there are EXPENSES? That's laughable.

No, I knew there are expenses. I have not donated to an organization and never will because of that. To me a better use of money would be helping a neighbor or coworker who is struggling.

As far as big charities go 12% expenses is good.

They don't have any easily findable info either, but I managed to find their IRS form 990. From last year 14% of their total revenue went to wages and 6% went to other expenses while 80% went to the program's cause. Of that 80% remainder 47% was given to 16 other charities, which each have their own salaries and expenses to pay.

80 cents of every dollar going to a worthy cause? You be the judge.

For all these anti-religious charities with no open financial statements,

You have to have faith that your money is going to support most of the program.
YEEEAAAHHH!

I find it silly and ridiculous that one charity can re-give money to another charity. It was donated to _them_ in the good faith that it would be used for their goals, not some other charity they may be sympathetic with. It's entirely possible the donator doesn't agree with the second charity to which their money is going.

I would also like to mention, Lonesome, that if you don't help your neighbors and friends in need, then you have no reasoning behind not donating to a charity that lists expenses. Everything has an expense, despite the size of it.

I'll also remind you that just because the charity isn't athiest-based doesn't mean it's bad. Here's a really great one that helps the homeless in San Diego:

These guys are pretty small-time, and if you want to make sure you aren't giving your money away to be piddled out on organizational fees and advertising, drop by the walmart website and order the supplies they need and have them shipped to their address. They hand out backpacks of supplies to homeless people to help give them at least a few things to survive. Just because it's California doesn't mean the weather doesn't get harsh.

Sorry if it's a bit big, I thought Thumbnail was just bleh. Anyway, I wanted to give thanks to anyone here who did donate. Props to TTA for doing 5 different charities over the course of 5 days and shooting past each goal.
