Second Annual Vault F4 Secret Santa Gift Extravaganza

What is it?

One of the more popular holiday games, Secret Santa is a fun and easy way for a group of friends, family members or co-workers to exchange gifts.
The basic concept of the Secret Santa game is simple. All of the participants’ names are placed into a hat, box, etc. and mixed up. Each person then chooses one name from the box, but doesn't tell anyone which name was picked. He/she is now responsible for buying a gift for the person selected.

When the Secret Santa wraps his/her gift, he/she should label it with the recipient's name but doesn't indicate whom the present is from. (Remember, most of the fun is in the secrecy.)

How it is going to work

Everyone who is interested is going to post that they want to participate. The spending limit for your gift will be $20;however, if you want to spend more, do so at your own discretion. The point of the limit is to keep this fun (the event is not meant to be a burden). I will keep the list of all the people that are participating.

The gifts will be mostly Steam Games/Gifts to keep it simple. If you do not have a problem with receiving an actual physical gift, you can PM me your address and I will give that to your Secret Santa.

People have until December 8th to sign up for this great event! On December 11th, you will all be assigned your Secret Santa! It is now time to get those gifts! You can try and find out what to get your person (and risk exposure!) or just improvise and get them what you think they will like.

Everyone will have until December 21st to buy the gift you are going to give. On December 22nd, at 8:00PM Eastern the gifts will be given! Everyone will need to be on TeamSpeak or Steam for the giving! Make sure that you have your Steam Account associated with your forum account.

To participate please respond to this post with the following:

"I want to participate in the Vault F4 Secret Santa Gift Extravaganza!

I understand that by signing up for this event I am guaranteeing that I will buy a gift for whoever I am assigned.

If I wish to back out of this fun, then I have to let The Kraken know BEFORE December 10th.

I have associated my forum account with my steam account"

A Couple of Points:
1. people should have steam wish-lists that are publicly viewable to aid the Santa in gift selection. This way you have something to consider/fall back on or use if you don't know the person at all, or so you can watch the Steam sales for something they might like.

2. Operators have a discussed the repercussions for people that fail to buy gifts and failure to do so will result in being publicly shamed. To be honest, for some people this may be the only gift they get this holiday, so keeping with the spirit of Christmas, let's make sure they get a gift.

Just a pointer from last year's Secret Santa, if you participate please don't buy a game that's on your wishlist. I bought someone a game and they bought it themselves before the gift exchange :(

Question, can you even do it in secret when it comes to Steam? I mean, what if you gotta add the person? =P

Yeah, that sucks and it's kinda hard to handle given the way steam has the flash deals. I'd suggest that if you absolutely _must_ buy a game on your wishlist because it's on sale, keep it in your inventory, don't add it to your account just yet. That way, if it is the same thing you get from your secret santa, they'll still have the opportunity to get you the gift, and now you have a spare one to send to a friend! Otherwise, if you know you're gonna buy it regardless... remove it from your wishlist before the santas are assigned!

Should be able to, this is why we ask for public wishlists and profiles. We're just finalizing some details on the actual giving itself with regards to giving directly or having all the gifts go into a "sack" so that the giver remains anonymous (moreso than past years).

To elaborate: For complete anonymity, you will be asked to route gifts through The Kraken if possible. Obviously, not everyone is going to purchase a Steam gift, but we can do what we can. :)

Needs moar peoples! C'mon ladies! Holiday spirit! Go! :D

Working retail will kill your Holiday spirit.
I work with disadvantaged/mentally handicapped children and their (mostly) scumbag families. I take solace in leaving bags of small gifts on their doorsteps. Also, I've worked retail and let me just say, it's not the job that kills the spirit, it's your attitude.

I'm gonna say it's more like the attitude of the customers you try to help. I tend to go out of my way for most of the people I help at my store, but I get those people that get so upset that I have to go check and make sure we have it in stock or we may have to order it for them. It's like we are inconveniencing them SO much. Black Friday sucked a lot btw..

Yeah, because we all know "the back" is a magical dimension portal to narnia with a copy of every possible game somewhere on a shelf. :D

I don't know about anyone else's store, but our warehouse is a shit pile of a mess. I have mastered the art of going in, pretending I'm looking for a few minutes (usually play with my phone), then tell the customers we don't have any. I hate to do it, but you can't find shit in there.

well you know you could just organize it while you are looking for said item and slowly bit by bit organize everything that way you can find things again :3
