so apparently ALL the map filenames are in lowercase, but the game looks for them in uppercase. f*cking wonderful. I do NOT feel like having to rename several hundred files.

I would definitely play. Unfortunately I also know very little about UT servers... I would be more than happy to be a test monkey

That is really strange... wait, what if you changed the names of the maps the rotation file to match the way the files are actually named? Would be easy to do in an editor.

Also, the server name should reflect the game length and difficulty.

looking at other server, there are alot of files that go into the fastDL but go to quick for me to read, as for the filenames...what!? there is no setting to look for file names in a particular way... way to go UT servers.....

It has been a few years since I last did it, but I never encountered such a problem with UT servers such as we are apparently having.

it's not just the map names, ALL the damn resources are doing this.

Well, I think I've fixed THAT problem. hopefully that is the only one...

I used to run a couple of KF servers from a box at home. The bandwidth/box requirements are surprisingly low. When I first started setting up my dedicated servers, I used this tutorial: http://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/showthread.php?t=30579

That one does an excellent job.

As far as what goes into the FastDL server, it's very simple. Only the map files go into the FastDL server. The best way to do this is to compress the map files from ".rom" to ".bz2". The Unreal engine provides a way to compress the files and is described in that tutorial. You leave the .rom in the server map folder and move the .bz2 to the FastDL folder. It's also best to have the FastDL folder separate from the game server. I actually used Dropbox (shhh, don't tell them) and it worked great. But in our case maybe use the webserver, the map files take up very little room once compressed.

It also describes how to name files in there.

looks good. im on the server right now if peeps wanna join

Looks like we've cracked it. Apparently the damn update wasn't downloading.

Are you using the Anti-Blocking mod? It's super useful for when people run to the shop and stop in the doorway, blocking everyone else from getting in. Just a thought.

running vanilla right now.

Given I have no experience with UT servers, I have no idea what's available for mods and the like.

yea looks good was hanging out for a few rounds, server filled quick. most i would say to add right now would be the anti blocking mod and maybe a few custom maps (like doom for instance, very popular one)

Point me to these things and I shall install them.

I think you might have to download server configs and the like regardless of whether or not it is a stock map. I'll check it out later to see what's what.

And I'm not sure on doom, as you kinda need friendly fire on for it not to be too easy.

Trying to get on now, there's a ~40mb download for the server that's going extremely slowly. Current file downloading is kf_gore_trip_sm

Also, if you haven't already, consider doing an all Christmas map rotation, as there are seasonal achievements tied to maps that usually guarantees players.

Maps are icecave, evil santa's lair, and the new moonbase one, not sure on its actual name.

Ah, there was an update for KF, probably. I can't update because the steam account seems to have magically gotten steam guarded. I'll look into it tomorrow.

Update is now installed, we're cycling those three xmas maps :)
