Trident's don't have reach, they have a thrown range of 10ft, and you take -2 for every 5ft of water. Thats plus a -8 for the character being fully submerged in murky water. You would get a -12 to throw the trident at the grindylow

also if you want to cast a spell at it, the surface of the water breaks line of sight for all spells. So you'd still have to jump in and make a swim check to attack it

i read that wrong, the surface only blocks line of sight for fire spells. Other spells only get the -8 if they require an attack roll
