Oh, I'm glad to hear that Zirk
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:03 PM -
Zirkus:
I didnt think it was when i got it but lately ive been getting into decently high quality audio stuff and keeping 320s destroys that space x_X
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:03 PM -
Zirkus:
cant even consider flacs because of it
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:04 PM -

if you think 320 VBR is bad
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:05 PM -
moo_d:
wait until you see my 16 bit album obsession
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:05 PM -
moo_d:
not to mention that when I can I record 24 bit PCMs for live events. 24 tracks over a few hours eats up a few dozen GB
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:07 PM -
moo_d:
... gee in retrospect I hope we were talking about audio file formats because otherwise I've made a serious fool out of myself
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:09 PM -

I would assume that you were since Zirkus mentioned FLACs

Oct 16, 2014 at 8:14 PM -
Hexalan: and then i started listening to 320 and FLACs and i wondered how my ears had not fallen off
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:14 PM -
Zirkus:
Eh, with most peoples headphones/speakers its not a huge deal
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:14 PM -
lonesome killer: What's funny is when people buy $300 Beats headphones to listen to mp3s they torrented or stole from Youtube
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:15 PM -
Hexalan: where else would you get mp3s lonesome
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:15 PM -
moo_d:
After working on every piece of equipment in live audio from Claire i5 rigs with PRO 3 consoles (which I'm still psyched about) to like... radio shack mixers...

Oct 16, 2014 at 8:15 PM -
Hexalan: hippie legit store?
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:15 PM -
Zirkus:
and i dont really have a main server. I put my new 90 war on Thrall though
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:16 PM -
lonesome killer: No I mean they have shit quality music but spent so much on a headphone they arent even using the capabilites of
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:16 PM -
Zirkus:
Picked a decently high pop server since my old server would provide raids for about a month after expac and then die -_-
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:17 PM -
Hexalan: gorramit

Oct 16, 2014 at 8:18 PM -

my recent headphone impulse buy was some m80s. Took far too long for them to stop killing my ears and get broken in though

the s bbcode should still work
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:18 PM -

you sound like an audioph00l, zirk
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:19 PM -

no such thing as "breaking in" of speakers

it is an actual thing
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:20 PM -

They are on ear and ive never had a pair and my ears did not enjoy it.

...continue?
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:21 PM -
lonesome killer: I've tried googling that since I've heard other people saying so, but I couldn't find any reliable information
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:21 PM -
lonesome killer: Do you have a source moo_d?
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:21 PM -
VintagePC:
I'm skeptical as well
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:22 PM -
VintagePC:
there's nothing to "break in"
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:22 PM -
moo_d:
like anything that moves, the cone especially along with any other flexing parts of the driver are stiffer at first
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:22 PM -
VintagePC:
source?
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:22 PM -
moo_d:
oh for the love of god
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:22 PM -
moo_d:
I do this for a living
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:22 PM -
VaultBot: and then i started listening to 320 and flacs and i wondered how my ears had not fallen off
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:23 PM -
VintagePC:
I recall reading an extensive discussion on that which ended with tests that found no difference
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:23 PM -
VaultBot: such dork. much facepalm
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
moo_d:
but since you want a source, here - take Sweetwater's buying guide explanation: http://www.sweetwater.com/insync/headphones-buying-guide/#break-in
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
VintagePC:
from an engineering perspective... if something is being flexed to the point where it has short-term impact on its properties
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
VintagePC:
it logically follows that it will continue to do so at an accellerated rate
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
VaultBot: sweet, tf2ware is back up and running properly
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
moo_d:
Yeah, Vintage, it's usually negligible but on occasion it isn't
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
Zirkus:
i listen to shitty music anyways, only breaking im worried about my headphones doing is my eardrums
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
VintagePC:
and cause very premature failure
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:24 PM -
VaultBot: no such thing as "breaking in" of speakers
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:25 PM -
VintagePC:
that link smells of FUD
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:26 PM -
moo_d:
well, cones are basically paper. if you've ever flexed a new sheet of paper over and over and over again it loses it's stiffness rather quickly but it won't ever break (unless you're wayyy past XMAX)
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:26 PM -
moo_d:
(Yes, it does but it's a quick and easy source from people who do their research)
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:26 PM -
VintagePC:
why would "professional headphone manufacturers" DELIBERATELY make an inferior sounding product
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:26 PM -
VaultBot: waiting on the right candidate?
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:27 PM -
moo_d:
Because, as the article explains briefly, they are making equipment for the long haul.
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:28 PM -
VintagePC:
not buying it
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:28 PM -
moo_d:
Vintage, as far as my personal opinion, it makes no reasonably audible difference even at the higher tiers of devices.
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:28 PM -
VintagePC:
and that's all that matters
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:29 PM -
moo_d:
sorta xD
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:29 PM -
VintagePC:
but from an engineering perspective... it just doesn't hold up
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:29 PM -
moo_d:
The only place it would even possibly matter is in the case of headphones.
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:29 PM -
moo_d:
But even then - negligible.
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:29 PM -
VintagePC:
I loled at " run a fairly hot signal through them for 12-24 hours"
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:29 PM -
lonesome killer: Here's the most comprehenisve research I've seen on the subject. 4 pages of really analytical testing.

Oct 16, 2014 at 8:29 PM -
moo_d:
Although...
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:30 PM -
lonesome killer: And his conclusion is it make negligble difference. People who say the differnece of breaking in your headphones is like night and day are exaggerating
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:30 PM -
VintagePC:
all you do there is risk burning out your coils, and you're deliberately killing HF response
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:31 PM -
lonesome killer: None of the instruction manuals in headphones say anything about "breaking in" I think it's a nasty internet myth that is spread by stupid peopl
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:31 PM -
VintagePC:
like buying a pair of tweeters and stuffing them with cotton because you only want to hear the bass
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:31 PM -
VintagePC:
it is
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:31 PM -
moo_d:
this all makes me want to do double blind testing
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:31 PM -
Hexalan: ~~~shameless self-promotion~~~
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:31 PM -
VintagePC:
which will probably be inconclusive
Oct 16, 2014 at 8:32 PM -
VintagePC:
on a side note I've got some oxygen-free audio cables I'll sell you for $2500

Only measurement he didn't include was phase response, but hey - since when does that make a difference in cans...
