We aren't SM devs so the only alternative is to fall back to the legacy "1-2-3-4-5" orange menu which gets even more hate by people for sealing quick-switch weapon inputs when it pops up :-/

Would there be a way to customize it so the first option starts at 5? No class has more than 4 weapon slots so maybe ot could be done so the first map in the vote requires you to press 5 and then just on from there. I have no knowledge on this so pardon if what I'm saying right now is dumb as hell.

I think UMC has an option to not use 1-2-3 but I think it does that by making them dummy menu items that don't register a vote (but still swallow the key selection). Your question is valid but I am not familiar enough with SM UI innards to understand how to go about rewriting a plugin in that way
