We are less than a week away from Maxis finally releasing the first new SimCity in 10 years and I don't know about the rest of you but I'm pretty excited. For those of you that either were too young or not in existence yet, SimCity used to be one of those games that everyone had back in the 90's. It didn't require a powerful computer to run, was simple and complex at the same time, all while being fun. Now we get to experience that fun all over again with the new SimCity but with improvements and changes.

The biggest change to SimCity is that it is now all online, rather than sharing save files with friends now you can work together on a city or a region online. There has been a lot of flack about this which I understand, but unfortunately it seems like always on DRM is slowly becoming mainstream. But back to the good part, with the ability to create entire regions with friends I thought it would be cool if we created a Vault region where we can all work together and try to top the leader board. Right now I don’t know what the max amount of cities/players are allowed per region but from what I have seen and heard it looks like it will be up to 16.

So anyone that wants to join in on this or just looking to add friends on Origin post your origin ID below and maybe even say what specialization you want to do when you start playing.

Probably going to try and build my own silicon valley.

I'm pretty excited for this game to come out. I remember playing SimCity 2000 for hours on end. I'd be interested in joining you Nightshde. I'll get a hold of you once it starts up =)

Sounds fun, although I have not been following the game beyond my decision to buy it. Hopefully I do not have any issues redeeming my key from GMG next week (first time I have pre-purchased a game from them). I had to look up my OriginID, actually just changed it from FluffyBunnies to my more common (at least nowadays) CorruptDictator.

I think I would be up for this. I will probably be acquiring the game shortly after it comes out.

Looking at the specialization options for a city, I am kind of sad at the lack of choices (especially since we all know EA will be charging for every little extra they release for this game). Prolly go Trading, but I will have to play the game to say anything for certain.

Well it is confirmed that regions can have up to 16 cities but not sure if that means 16 people can play in one region. The image they show on the new pre-order site shows 8 playing in one region so that could be the max or it could go higher, guess we will have to wait till Tuesday.

So the press is already being allowed to play the game as of this morning. I am not going to comment on what I have read so far regarding game quality, but do have one significant concern. It looks like when they decided this was going to be an "always online" game they went all the way. You cannot even make a city that can function completely on its own, your "neighbors" have a significant impact on your city (and you on theirs) to the point where is someone wants to be a jerk he can build up a city and then purposely ruin it just to mess up his neighbors. I am definitely not a fan of this. While overall I think I will get my money out of the game (with respect to how much play time I expect out of each dollar spent, got this on a $45 pre-sale), I have a sinking feeling I will end up going back to games like SimCity 4 and Tropico when I want to just enjoy running a city. Release tomorrow (tonight?) should be an interesting experience (really hoping the servers hold up).

From what I have seen and played you can select what type of region/how large you want and you can make it private, invite only, or open to all. So if you make it open to all and some ahole comes in and messes things up you can always kick them out and take over the city and fix it. The same goes for when you play in a region with other people and one person stops playing, someone else can take over the city and continue playing with it. As far as the destruction options I'm not sure if you can release those on to other people's cities but I think that could actually make a fun pvp game out of it.

Still, my complaint with the system (as I currently see it, perhaps getting to play it will reveal some differences) is that you cannot just play it alone and expect viability UNLESS when you create a region you can control multiple cities within that private region and switch between them.

In Sim City 4, you can create as many cities as you want in a region and control any of them. In fact the game suggests that you do just that so the cities can thrive off each other. This is why I always start with a city connected to the big city tutorial city :D I am sure it will have the same concept in this new Sim City.

well i cant buy it :/ seems like gmg has an us only lock on that game and no international ones for sale :( and knowing that steam charges a 1-1 ratio and takes nz prices as price to sell a game for and not us prices ima have to hunt around for a while to find a good place to buy one from before i could join you guys with playing it

GMG HAD international for sale at some point because on their forums there is a long thread about the game unlock/keys with a bunch of EU purchasers, unless it is a AUS/NZ issue, which is entirely possible.

Anyone try it yet? The official release time was 9:01PM yesterday. For me the Origin server had a fit and would not even let me see the My Games page of the client so I had to wait and start the download this morning before work.

I never read anything about there not being a sandbox mode, only that the mode exists, but it is very boring for some reason.

Yea there was a big uproar of people bitching about there not being a sandbox mode, and actually originally I think EA said there wasn't going to be one but I guess they changed their minds.
