Well I was sort of alluding to fans watching 4 because it was Star Trek, then seeing the failure and subsequently not watching any of the rest, but that works too.

Found the Japanese trailer and as always they get a little bit more. There seems to be a bit of a hint at the end that this could be like the wrath of khan or it could just be abrams messing with us.

They steal a cloaked ship to use the sun to go back in time while somehow having the exact instruments that will slow them down at the precise instant for them to hit that one specific year even though it's never been tried before so they can later do the same thing but the other way around to bring a whale back to communicate with aliens in the future.

as i said a lot better plus what they did was talked about again and again throughout all the series when it came to time travel so it might not have been logical the first time but it did set the stage for time travel research in the star trek universe :3
