The area I live in has a POA. You have to get permission from them before you paint your house or build anything. I saw this on my way to work yesterday Somehow I doubt they approved it. A 20 foot giraffe in the front yard?

I suspect they start with the best of intentions where people want to have a nice looking neighbourhood so property values in that area go up. But then you get a bunch of [power freaks/crusty old codgers/people with a vendetta (pick any/all)] in them, and you get the sort of stuff where you can't so much as fart in your own back yard without getting fined.

^ Pretty much that. Sounds good (like socialism) until you actually put it into effect. Then the 3 heads of the organization make the rules and go on a power trip. The community has a forum and it's usually a bunch of old people going back and forth, calling the neighborhood teenagers hoodlums and things like that.

It was up for a few days then vanished. I showed the picture to a lady I work with who lives in the same area. She just told me yesterday that one of her neighbors now has the giraffe. Sounds like a group of people got together and decided to stick it to the POA by keeping it in the yards until they get enough complaints, then they will move it around. I just know the old farts on the board committee are having a heart attack!

But seriously, your POA sounds terrible. We have one around here, and they don't tell us to do shit. They release a monthly newspaper and occasionally request that you say no to something like a new building development. And even then, you can still say yes and they can't do shit.

Yeah screw the entire concept of POAs. If I buy a piece of property, I'm gonna do anything I like on it.
