[Story Progression] The Great Library of Tephu

It's going to be about 2:30am when Memsie gets a full rest in and gets up to stand guard. The next morning dawns with a Gnome on the roof and a halfling getting up to worship the sun. A soon as the sun creeps over the walls of the manse a library guard approaches with a sealed parcel in his arm for Zanros. Inside the parcel are 3 things;

1st) a note giving the bearer permission to enter the Inner Sanctum of the Library for up to 3 days of consecutive research in the Spiral Archive.
2nd) a key
3rd) a map of Tephu

It takes a few minutes of studying the map before you see the smallest of red dots in an alley between two buildings in Wadjets Walk (number 5 on the map of Tephu in the journal).

What is the party going to do today?

I was gone for a bit, but overnight I'll have made a belt of giant strength (construct cost 2000), by taking 10, using nanite surge, etc.

Argor takes the crafter of all things aside and discreetly inquires whether it would be possible to procure a +2 cloak for 2k GP

"Come everyone, I think I've go the lead we've been looking for!" Zanros takes the contents to the table and splays them out. He promptly points his finger to the red dot. "After mine and Memsie's run in at the temple yesterday, I think this our best bet for a lead on the forgotten pharaoh."

From a story stand point, I will say you don't know what you are looking for in the Dark Depository yet. So you can't research it until you learn what you need to learn from the Spiral Archive, which you do know what you are looking for in (for a reminder re-read the Library Research sub-forum)

Could you please also post what you are doing today. As a future rule, I'm lenient on posting a little late, but if you're going to post late, also add what you're going to do next as well. You're already online and will keep things going faster.

If Argor supplies me with currency, I can do it on the next night. Isal also likes making things so you could also run that by her. Assuming we're all ready, I'll go investigate (heh) the inner sanctum that we have free access to (right?) for history.

Argor inquires with Isal as well regarding the cloak and places a satchel of 2000GP on the table for the party member that wishes to make the cloak.

Despite not having much in the way of knowledge, I'll join in the research brigade.

"I can certainly make you one, a lot quicker than the android, since Resistance is a spell I'm quite familiar with already. HOwever I will be putting research in the Library first and foremost." Isal will take the gold to her room and lock it up in her chest

  • You must first reach the Spiral Archive in the Inner Sanctum of the library in order to research
  • Whose permission note are you going to use to gain permission?
  • You get one research as a team, with up to two helpers, but you must research the same knowledge check; you are researching for specific notes referenced in your previous research on the Sky Pharaoh, so it would be either History or Nobility, just so long as everyone does the same knowledge check
Edit* Maps have been switched in roll20. Anybody not going to the Inner Sanctum please post, otherwise I'll assume you're tagging along

"Since we are going to the inner sanctum, it would be prudent to say we should be prepared for anything."

I'll go to aid with research, my roll is +4 but I'm happy to step back for someone with a better mod.

Zanros's note specifically permits us into the Spiral Archive, while Isal's lets us into the Inner Sanctum in general. So we should probably save Isal's note for the next library we can't break into.

Idessa will go to help the researchers get through the temple without trouble, and aid in research if need be (it's totally behind the door in the library we're allowed in, right? We can probably just ask a curator). I have Knowledge(Nobility) trained, but it's only a +4.

While the party goes to to the temple library Zanros dons his hot weather outfit, and leaves his distinctive bicorne in his room. Disguised (Modifier 9) in such a way he proceeds to head towards the Dark Depository, to see if he can see anything of note along the street.

When we head out, I will put on a disguise (+8) and be as stealthy as possible (+14). It's not widely known I'm a member of the party yet, so I will use that to my advantage where possible (though I will need to associate myself to gain entry on the pass)

Everyone but Zanros: I have switched maps to the Library. You don't have to place tokens on the map just yet, unless you plan on starting a fight in the library. The party makes it to the Great Library's main doors to the Outer Sanctum at opening time. The two librarians at the front desk greet you. "Good Morning, have you come seeking wisdom and knowledge today?"

"Hey, Patricia. We're going a little deeper than usual this time." Idessa produces the dispatch from Deka An-Keret allowing them into the Spiral Archive.

She reads the parchment over, then hands it to the librarian sitting next her who does the same. "It looks authentic, if it is, you'll be the first one's down there since that creepy necromancer that came by." the other one says "He was so creepy, I swear I heard a voice coming from his backpack." With that one of the librarians from the back comes up, almost as if she knew she was wanted. "Follow me please" she says "I'll let you in, but I'll warn you we only check for bodies in there once a year. Just make sure you have your signed parchment held in front you. The Inner Sanctum's guardian is quite.... a stickler for rules." Once you reach the Door of the Eye, she puts her hand on the door and inserts the key. The door swings open and she allows you to pass. A single ladder leads down to a narrow landing.

Map Updated, please place tokens and do your thing.
